Doug Kalcik works for L-3 Communications, Coleman Aerospace division in Orlando, Florida as a "Rocket Scientist” (official title is Chief RF Engineer) and is responsible for telemetry communications between our missiles and the ground tracking stations. Doug also moonlights as an occasional performer at Universal Studios (Halloween Horror Nights), is a member of the International Brotherhood of Magicians, and got to drive a NASCAR car at the Disney Speedway while Kyle Petty was practicing.

Professional comedian Mike Lukas recently moved back to the Northcoast after years in California. Mike has performed in front of national audiences on NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno, Late Night with Conan O' Brien, Comedy Central, VH-1's Stand-up, and hosted and co-wrote The Straight Dope for A&E. He is a regular performer in some of the top clubs in the country and can be "caught in the act” on YouTube. Welcome back Mike!

Congratulations to Debbie (Balazs) Longo, her hubby Joe, and the Longo family for the excellent feature story on their restaurant business in the News Herald in February. Christine (Pizem) Pasko and her husband Eric welcomed twins in October named Sophia and Bryce. Christine is currently teaching fourth graders in Strongsville.

William Gubser is currently working as a consultant at Cardinal Health in Columbus, Ohio on a project for the Nuclear Pharmacy Services division. William, his wife Jackie, and their three sons Daniel, Michael, and Joseph, currently reside in the Columbus area.

Douglas Nicholl and his wife Cyndie welcomed their third son, Cullen Joseph into the world in July 2009. He joins his brothers Logan (8), and Joshua (5).

Kate (Vasko) Kelly and her husband Paul continue to enjoy life raising their two sons Conor and Ryan. Kate works as a Child Life Specialist at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital and treasures her volunteer efforts at the Learning Loft of St. Gabriel's Church.

Major kudos to Jesse Ackerman who continues to make his mark in the collegiate sports world as an Assistant Strength and Conditioning Coach for the University of Texas. In part through his hard work and off-season dedication, the Longhorns annually rank in the top echelon of college football. Jesse enjoyed the fruits of his labor with a trip to the BCS Championship Bowl game this year.

Jonathan Sweitzer (son of Head Girls Basketball Coach Frank Soria) got engaged over the holiday season to girlfriend Jessica Vince. Jon is a police officer and the newlyweds plan to live in a purchased home in Willoughby.
Monica (Barry) McBride, her husband Andy, and their daughter Collete Marie welcomed a new addition to the family in September – Finn Thomas McBride. Though the family currently resides in Colorado, Finn Thomas was baptized at St. Mary's in Mentor in January. Dan Barry '07 and Maria (Burrier) Patterson '00 were the godparents.

Eric Valyko works as an analyst for Stout Risius Ross, Inc., an Investment Banking and Business Valuation firm with five offices in the Midwest and Northeast. Working in the Cleveland office, Eric specializes in the valuation of both privately held and publicly traded companies in addition to intangible asset valuation for transaction advisory purposes. He is also a mentor with the organization "Minds Matter,” a non-profit focused on helping high achieving yet economically disadvantaged high school students gain admission to leading summer programs at prestigious universities. Eric recently accepted admission to the MBA program at the Stephen M. Ross School of Business at the University of Michigan.
Eastlake firefighter Greg Mitskavich was presented with the Jorge Medina Distinguished Service Award by the Lake County Blue Coats during their annual banquet in February. He was given the award for his heroism in saving a person from a burning apartment building in Eastlake during October 2009.

New York resident Dan Grgic takes his acting talents on the road as he auditioned and won a role in the national touring production of Cabaret. Dan plays Max the bartender and is understudy for the lead role of Master of Ceremonies. Good luck Dan!

Courtney Mullan is a senior at the University of Findlay majoring in Biological Sciences and was named to the Dean's List for Fall 2009. She was also named to the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC) Women's Soccer All-Academic Team for the third time.
