SYNOPSIS
Set during Prohibition in the late 1920’s in Chicago, Illinois, femme fatale, Roxie Hart commits cold-blooded murder of her faithless lover but convinces her hapless husband Amos to take the rap . . . until he finds out he has been duped and turns on Roxie. Accused of murder, Roxie is sent to death row where she meets up with other merry murderesses who all feel justified in their actions because “he had it coming!” Among the cell block Betties we meet Velma Kelly, a jazz star, also accused of murder but using her new found fame to further her singing career. With the help of top criminal attorney Billy Flynn and his own agenda for acclaim, Roxie and Velma vie for the spotlight and the headlines and ultimately join forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune, and acquittal.
