Lake Catholic High School, founded in 1970, is a coeducational comprehensive high school with a college preparatory emphasis. Lake Catholic is committed to educating young men and women of diverse means and ability throughout Northeast Ohio. With a population of some 500 students in grades nine through twelve and international students from a half dozen countries, Lake Catholic High School emphasizes spiritual growth in the Catholic faith as students learn, work, and serve.

Position Overview

Reporting to the President, the primary responsibility of the Director of Mission and Formation is implementing the vision, mission, teachings, and traditions of the Catholic Church through collaborative faith formation experiences designed to assist the students in becoming disciples of Christ. The Director will evangelize, encourage, discover and “call forth” the Catholic ministerial talents of all those in the school community – students, staff, faculty, alumni, and families alike, to share in the responsibility of the Catholic formation of the students as a community of faith.

Responsibilities

• Serve as lead administrator of Spiritual Life team and support the Theology department and as a senior member of the school staff to fully implement school mission and values for all parts of the school community.
• Be responsible for coordinating all spiritual/religious activities directed at the practice of the faith of the students, such as liturgies, retreats, Catholic Schools Week, and Catholic devotions by planning and scheduling an annual calendar of events to include liturgies, retreats, etc.
• In keeping with the Diocese of Cleveland’s rich tradition of service, oversee community service and outreach programs for students to put their faith into action as servant leaders.
• Create a culture of Adult Formation for faculty, staff, families and alumni by incorporating all aspects of our Catholic faith into our community. Develop a “Mission Formations Program” for new faculty/staff, implement activities that enhance the faith formation of administration, faculty, staff, parents and alumni.
• Coordinate with Admissions, Advancement, and Marketing teams to help promote Lake Catholic’s mission and values to prospective and current families, alumni, and friends. Meet with local grade schools to support their faith formation.
• Represent Lake Catholic High School at community and diocesan meetings and events.
• Work with diocesan entities such as the vocation director, Seminary faculty and staff, Office of Catholic Education staff, Director of Youth Ministry and other relevant parties to enhance faith formation opportunities for the Lake Catholic Community.
• Oversee the regular review of programs and policies.
• Develop and manage an annual budget.
• Work with the Director of Advancement to procure relevant grants and financial support
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

• A practicing Catholic in full communion with the Church with a deep commitment to and alignment with Catholic teachings, traditions, mission, and values.
• Familiarity with best practices in Catholic formation and programming. Knowledge of Church documents that guide faith formation and Catholic ministry.
• Bachelor’s degree in religious studies, or a related field. Master’s degree preferred.
• Two to three years of experience in Catholic education or pastoral ministry.
• Excellent written and verbal communication knowledge and skills.
• Demonstrated success in meeting deadlines on multiple, concurrent projects.
• Reliable transportation for travel throughout Lake County and surrounding counties.
• Availability and ability to perform responsibilities during the day as well as nights and weekends as required.

Essential Job Functions

• Safely transport students to and from school-related activities, athletic events, field trips, and other approved destinations using a school-owned van.
• Follow all traffic laws, school policies, and Diocese of Cleveland transportation guidelines at all times.
• Conduct routine pre- and post-trip vehicle inspections and report any maintenance or safety concerns promptly.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and orderly vehicle environment for students.
• Supervise students during transport to ensure appropriate behavior and safety.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with school administrators, coaches, staff, and students.
• Adhere to assigned schedules and demonstrate flexibility for occasional schedule adjustments.
• Represent Lake Catholic High School positively within the community.
• Complete other related duties as assigned by the principal or designee.

Qualifications

• Valid Ohio driver’s license with a clean driving record.
• Ability to safely operate a passenger van. Prior experience driving students is preferred but not required.
• Strong sense of responsibility, reliability, and attention to safety.
• Ability to interact positively with high school students and school staff.
• Commitment to the mission and values of Lake Catholic High School and the Diocese of Cleveland.
• Must successfully pass FBI and BCI background checks and complete the Diocese of Cleveland VIRTUS program.

• Establishes the fundamental philosophy, skills and techniques to be taught by coaching staff.
• Act in a manner consistent with the Catholic philosophy of the school when dealing with players, coaches, officials, parents and other spectators.
• Expect and enforce this type of behavior from athletes.
• Assists in the necessary preparation to hold scheduled sport events or practices and adheres to scheduled facility times.
• Provides proper safeguards for maintenance and protection of assigned equipment.
• Performs other duties which may be assigned by the Athletic Director or Principal.
• Accountable for all equipment. Coordinates the issuance and recording of equipment. Oversees the collection of issued equipment.
• Supervises locker room before and after practices and games. Responsible for the cleanliness of the locker room and practice areas. Supervises weight room when used by participants.

Required Qualifications

• Excellent interpersonal, leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
• Valid Pupil Activity Permit, as issued by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce
• The following valid credentials:
  • CPR
  • First Aid
  • Fundamentals of Coaching
  • Concussion Training
  • Sudden Cardiac Arrest Training
  • Mental Health Training.
• Successful BCI and FBI background checks and VIRTUS certified or willing to be certified.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher in education, sports management, or related field
• Proven experience as a high school coach
