February 6 Edition
Throughout the month of February, this section will highlight a married couple who met at Lake Catholic, reconnected years later, or found that their time as a Cougar played a role in their path together.
This week's Alumni Spotlight highlights Lindsey (Reminder) and Kevin Sandborn (Class of 2010), who were married on June 22, 2019.
Tell us your story! Share when and how you met and the impact Lake Catholic had in your relationship.
We met while in the marching band. We were friends at first and by senior year, we were dating. We have fond memories of going to football games and performing and cheering on the Cougars. From hot band camp days to snowy football games, our high school memories will last a lifetime. During a pep rally our senior year, they had "The Dating Game" for all of the senior class couples because there were so many - and we won! We still brag about that to this day. If it weren't for Lake Catholic, we wouldn't have met and we are so grateful for how everything worked out.
What are you currently up to?
We have one daughter, Charlotte (Charlie) and are expecting our son any day now!
Where do you currently work?
Lindsey is a teacher at NDCL, and Kevin is a Data Analyst at Flexjet

Emily: My favorite memory is being the mascot for basketball games and the Broadmoor school events.
Chris: My favorite memory is playing Lake Catholic football for four years.
Why did you choose Lake Catholic for your child?
We knew Lake Catholic could provide the learning environment our daughter wanted, and open her up to new experiences. If it weren't for Lake Catholic she never would have tried golf and now she is going away to college next year on a golf and academic scholarship.
What are you currently up to? What's new and exciting that you have going on now?
We live in Concord with our 20-year-old twins, Adam and Sean, and our 17-year-old daughter, Angela, who is a senior at Lake Catholic. In 2025, we opened up a log cabin AirBNB in Kensington, Ohio, just outside Minerva and Alliance. With 17 acres, and a pool, it keeps us busy. In our spare time we enjoy taking hikes with our boxer, Rocky.

Why do you support Lake Catholic?
Lake Catholic brings back so many positive memories from my high school days and was an atmosphere of welcoming people who met me where I was. It was a foundational piece for my own personal growth into my college days and early adult life. I support Lake Catholic in the hopes that it fosters further development of young, well rounded individuals.
What specific areas or missions are you drawn to at Lake Catholic?
Athletics & Campus Ministry

I got married in May of 2025 and am always working on home improvement projects with my wife. I am currently training to run the Cleveland half marathon in May. January 9 Edition
This week's Alumni Spotlight highlights Lisa (Haic) Resetar (Class of 1986).
Why do you support Lake Catholic?
Supporting Lake Catholic comes easily and naturally to my family and me. Those four years attending Lake instilled in us the core values of the school, which enabled personal growth academically, spiritually, emotionally, and professionally after college. The willingness to serve others in our communities, whether it be locally, professionally, spiritually, or directly at Lake Catholic, started on the first day of our freshman year. The ability and the opportunity to “give back” to our Lake Catholic community is always a “yes” from my family and me.
What specific areas or missions are you drawn to at Lake Catholic?
As a family, we continue to support the Athletic teams by attending sporting events, witnessing the rebirth of the Athletic Hall of Fame, attending the induction ceremonies, and supporting the different fundraisers for each sport. Gregg and I are grateful to Mike Creadon (‘81) and Mike Denk (‘83) for the opportunity to give back to the Lake Catholic community by being a part of the 2025 Strategic Planning Committee and enjoying our time as 1986 Class Ambassadors.
What do you wish others knew about Lake Catholic?
Every time I walk into Lake Catholic, there is a strong feeling of being home. A warm sense of family and a place where the start of lifelong friendships began, and my personal faith journey continued and grew. I am blessed with 44-year-old friendships (friends I met my freshman year) and look forward to celebrating our 40th high school reunion this year, as my classmates and I get the opportunity to come home again and reconnect. Family is what the Lake Catholic community is to me, and that feeling of family has opened doors and created memories to last long after graduation day.
What is your favorite memory of Lake Catholic?
One of my favorite memories from Lake Catholic would be the Calm Before the Storm Pep Rallys on Fridays before our football games, where you spend the entire day being quiet until you entered the gym for the pep rally with the marching band playing loudly, the cheerleaders chanting, and the entire student body screaming and cheering. Getting to be the Cougar mascot for our Senior year homecoming game with Laura Vitale Bronstrup (we had 2 Cougar mascots that year) was quite a memorable moment too!
Why did you choose Lake Catholic for your child or children?
Having three daughters who all attended St. Gabriel School, Gregg & I allowed them to shadow the top two high schools that appealed to them at the time, while quietly hoping that they felt most at home at Lake. The opportunity to continue to grow in their Catholic faith daily, surrounded by strong academics, meeting new people, participating in sports, and getting involved in different extracurricular activities was exciting and encouraging when they made their decisions to attend Lake Catholic. Proud to say we ended up with three more Cougar alumni in our family!
What are you currently up to? What's new and exciting that you have going on now?
Currently enjoying my role as a Class Manager for my classmate and dear friend, Sandy Shvorob Powers, who owns a Jazzercise franchise in Highland Heights. On October 25, 2025, our daughter Lauren married Nick D’ Angelo at St. John Vianney Church and was officiated by Fr. Tom Johns. It was beautiful to see all the love and support from all the Lake Catholic Cougars who were in attendance, celebrating the start of another Cougar union. Happy to say we are officially family with Sal and Donna (Murray) D’ Angelo!

December 12 Edition
This week's Alumni Spotlight highlights Mario Slogar (Class of 2020), who is a consultant at Deloitte.
Why do you support Lake Catholic?
I support Lake Catholic because I’m a proud second-generation Cougar—my parents, Mike Slogar and DeeDee Ciancibello (both Class of ’85), met there and have been deeply connected to the Lake Catholic community ever since I was a child. The sense of belonging and support I experienced during my own time at Lake Catholic closely mirrors what my parents valued, reinforcing for me that Lake’s unique culture truly spans generations.
What specific areas or missions are you drawn to at Lake Catholic?
I’m especially drawn to the Performing Arts at Lake Catholic. During my time there, I was involved in the fall plays, spring musicals, and LC Singers, all of which gave me the chance to express my creativity alongside extremely talented classmates. I also participated in and showed appreciation for Lake Catholic's Student Government. The leadership skills I gained from leading the student body have continued to help me in my professional life at Deloitte, and I love to see the traditions we started through Student Government continue and evolve at Lake Catholic over the years.
What do you wish others knew about Lake Catholic?
I hope people recognize how lasting the friendships formed at Lake Catholic truly are. The connections you build there go far beyond graduation—it’s a privilege to return to Cleveland and always have a strong network of Lake Catholic alumni to reconnect with, even after moving away. I’m especially excited for our upcoming Class of 2020 reunion and look forward to catching up with so many familiar faces!
What is your favorite memory of Lake Catholic?
One of my favorite memories from my time at Lake Catholic is participating in an immersion trip to Ecuador through campus ministry. During this incredible experience, we visited neighborhoods in Guayaquil and were able to connect deeply with local cultures, communities, and environments. The trip ended with emotions running high—I came away feeling grounded and profoundly impacted by the lessons and perspectives I gained during such an eye-opening journey.
What are you currently up to? What's new and exciting that you have going on now?
I recently graduated from Ohio State University (‘24) with a degree in Finance and have relocated to Columbus to launch my consulting career with Deloitte. In my role, I partner with public sector clients focusing on technology improvement and identity management in the state government space.
Beyond my work at Deloitte, I stay connected to the Fisher College of Business by serving on the honors college advisory board, and I am proud to have completed my first half-marathon this past September!

December 5 Edition
This week's Alumni Spotlight highlights Dan and Melissa Brugh (Class of 1997). Dan is a Project Manager at Budzar Industries, and Melissa is an Accounting Clerk for Painesville City Local Schools.
Why do you support Lake Catholic?
We owe everything to Lake Catholic. Melissa and I both attended LC together for all four years, but we never really interacted until senior year. It came to Homecoming time, and I wanted to ask a girl to go to Homecoming who would allow me to be in the same group with my friends. I vividly recall speaking on the phone with Brendon Volkmann as we flipped through the yearbook, discussing who was friends with his date. We made it all the way to the "Y's," and I said, "I will ask Melissa." I do not think I spoke five words to her prior to that day. After asking her to Homecoming, we went on a couple of dates so Homecoming would not be as awkward. We learned that we both applied to Miami University, and that was both of our first choices. One thing led to another, and we have been together since 1996 and married since 2003.
Lake Catholic was a special place for us that built a strong foundation. We knew we wanted our children to attend there and enjoy the same experiences.
What specific areas or missions are you drawn to at Lake Catholic?
We have attended and supported Lake Catholic football since our kids were young. They always looked forward to catching a football thrown by the cheerleaders after a Cougar touchdown. Now our son, Connor, is a junior and has started on the varsity team the last two seasons.
What do you wish others knew about Lake Catholic?
It is very difficult to put it into words, but you hear everyone give a similar response when asked this question. Simply put, Lake Catholic is a family. We have many great friends, and we remain in touch with them today. Our family began at Lake Catholic, and it has continued to offer that same feeling to both Mackenzie and Connor. We are extremely grateful.
What is your favorite memory of Lake Catholic?
The rich traditions that Lake Catholic offered, including Calm Before the Storm, Turkey Day, and the Broadmoor Christmas Party.
Why did you choose Lake Catholic for your child or children?
We wanted to offer our children the opportunity to have the same positive experiences we had. We wanted them to develop the same strong foundation in academics, athletics, and faith. We wanted them to build the same lasting friendships that we did.
What are you currently up to? What's new and exciting that you have going on now?
Busy supporting our daughter Mackenzie ('23), who is a junior at Ohio State University, and our son Connor ("27).

This week's Alumni Spotlight highlights Brendan Fenner (Class of 2017), who is an Acquisitions Associate at Raith Capital Partners.
Why do you support Lake Catholic?
I support Lake Catholic because it has given me so much. The lifelong friendships, college preparation, and strong sense of community are just a few of the things that come to mind.
What do you wish others knew about Lake Catholic?
I wish others knew about the depth and reach of the Lake Catholic community—especially after graduation. I can recall many times when a fellow alumnus was happy to talk about their career and connect me with others in their field. It’s also always great coming back to the area to catch up with former classmates, teachers, and coaches.
What is your favorite memory of Lake Catholic?
Outside of spending time with friends, definitely the Chick-fil-A in the atrium.
What are you currently up to? What's new and exciting that you have going on now?
I’m currently living in New York City, where I’ve been since graduating from Ohio University. It’s been a great experience both personally and professionally. Recently, I moved from JP Morgan to Raith Capital Partners, where I focus on commercial real estate debt-related investments.

October 31 Edition
This week's Alumni Spotlight highlights Susan Richlak (Class of 1987).
Why do you support Lake Catholic?
Lake Catholic provided me not only with the educational background needed to succeed in college and law school, but, more importantly, with the community that gave me my longtime circle of friends, all from the class of '87. Many of us locally get together routinely, and our larger group of 11 friends still has an almost daily group text chat and try to gather and travel when we can to celebrate each other and to be together for life's precious moments. This kind of community is irreplaceable.
What specific areas or missions are you drawn to at Lake Catholic?
The Catholic mission has always been important to me, along with the connection with St. John Vianney parish, but the sporting events seem to be the occasions that draw me back to the community.
What do you wish others knew about Lake Catholic?
At Lake Catholic, there is just an intangible something that provides the basis for such lifelong friendships that seems to be felt by so many classes year after year. You just do not hear other people speak of this type of connection when they think about their high school experience.
What is your favorite memory of Lake Catholic?
Not sure if it is a favorite memory, but I was recently talking about the Calm Before the Storm Pep Rally days, where the whole student body would be quiet the whole day — in the halls and in lunch, etc. (not an easy feat!) and then erupt upon command as the pep rally commenced. Such a cool experience!
Why did you choose Lake Catholic for your children?
I wanted my children to have the Catholic foundation to their education, and I wanted them to experience that intangible something in the Lake Catholic family.
What are you currently up to? What's new and exciting that you have going on now?
Continuing my solo law practice of helping clients with their estate planning and probate needs. We strive to provide practical advice and education to put clients at ease during these times.
After more than 30 years in the practice of law, I have also started a women's resource company (On Purpose 86400) to help companies and women's groups provide engaging personal development workshops and activities for female leaders to encourage women to live their lives with intention, all 86,400 seconds a day.
My husband, Dale, and I are learning to be empty-nesters as our children, Sarah (Class of 2016) and Ethan (Class of 2019), pursue their careers and begin their young adult lives. Thankfully, we have our French Bulldog Tito to keep us entertained, and we have started to do some traveling abroad, recently to Italy, Greece, Dublin, Paris, and London, and I am planning the next one!

October 17 Edition
This week's Alumni Spotlight highlights Scott Jalwan (Class of 2002).
Why do you support Lake Catholic?
Lake Catholic was a vital part of my growth as a teenager. The teachers, staff, and students all had a positive impact on me throughout my four years there. I support the school because I want future students to have the same meaningful experiences and sense of community that I did.
What specific areas or missions are you drawn to at Lake Catholic?
I’m especially drawn to athletics and the overall sense of community at Lake Catholic. I’ve always been proud to see so many athletic programs thrive. Even living in Florida, I still feel connected to the Lake Catholic community and love seeing the school continue to grow and succeed.
What do you wish others knew about Lake Catholic?
Lake Catholic is more than just a school; it’s a true community where everyone can find their place. It’s led by great people who care deeply about the students and their families. It’s also incredible to see how many second and third generations have chosen to attend. That kind of legacy doesn’t happen by accident, and it speaks volumes about the culture and impact of the school.
What is your favorite memory of Lake Catholic?
As a former football player, my favorite memory has to be winning the 2001 State Championship. As a senior, celebrating that moment with a big group of teammates, many of whom I’d been playing with since freshman year, when we originally set this State Championship goal, was the perfect way to cap off our high school journey. It’s a core memory I’ll always carry with me.
What are you currently up to? What's new and exciting that you have going on now?
I’ve been living in Sarasota, Florida, since 2006 with my wife, Jamie, and our sons, Connor (9) and Kyle (8). I don’t make it up to Lake Catholic as often as I’d like, but I’m always happy to host fellow Cougars visiting Florida! I’ve spent my career working in municipal parks and recreation departments in various leadership roles, serving the community much like Lake Catholic once served me.

October 10 Edition
This week's Alumni Spotlight highlights Mark Baniewicz (Class of 2013), who is a CFP at Zappitelli Wealth Advisors.
Why do you support Lake Catholic?
I support Lake Catholic because of the special people I've met along the way, dating back to my time as a student-athlete, to my time as a coach there for six years, to today. Many of the most impactful relationships of my life are with the people I've gotten to know through Lake Catholic connections — teammates, coaches, and staff I worked with during my time coaching, parents, and friends. The community is built on such quality individuals, and I feel very fortunate to be an alumnus and supporter today. I hope that the students and families who currently attend Lake Catholic will have the experience I had, which I loved and that shaped me into the man I proudly am today.
What specific areas or missions are you drawn to at Lake Catholic?
Athletics has always been my connection to the school. I played football and basketball for the Cougars and continue to support both programs today. I’m close friends with Coach LeRoy and the baseball program, and I was extremely excited to see them make history by winning the first state championship in baseball at Lake Catholic.
What do you wish others knew about Lake Catholic?
The strength of the community. Lake Catholic is built on a special community of individuals who are God-centered, family-oriented, quality people.
What is your favorite memory of Lake Catholic?
My favorite athletic memory at Lake Catholic was throwing a game-winning touchdown pass to Richy Miller to beat Avon late in the fourth quarter during my junior season, which advanced us to the playoffs. We beat Avon 9–0 and moved on to the OHSAA playoffs the following week. Rich and I still talk about that play today. It’s one of many lifelong memories I’ve made with lifelong friends on the fields, playing for LCHS and the LCHS community.
What are you currently up to? What's new and exciting that you have going on now?
My wife Melissa and I are expecting our second son at the end of October 2025. Our other son, Markie, will be 2 in December. We’ve been keeping busy with work and family, attending Lake Catholic football games, and supporting Coach Gibbons and the program. The work the coaching staff puts in every day to impact the lives of the young men involved has always inspired me.
