Classes Offered
Lake Catholic is pleased to offer two finance classes. Students must take at least one in order to graduate.
Financial Literacy
Students will analyze fundamental economic theories, such as supply and demand, and learn about the interdependent roles of producers and consumers in the global marketplace. They will learn how to manage their monetary affairs by studying topics including credit, banking, insurance, and income taxes.
Financial Algebra
Financial Algebra focuses on real-world financial literacy, personal finance, and business subjects. Students apply what they learned in Algebra 1 and Geometry to topics including personal income, taxes, checking and savings accounts, credit, loans and payments, car leasing and purchasing, home mortgages, stocks, insurance, and retirement planning. Students then extend their investigations using more advanced mathematics, such as systems of equations (when studying cost and profit issues) and exponential functions (when calculating interest problems).
Cardinal Credit Union Partnership
In today’s fast-paced world, having a solid foundation in financial literacy is more important than ever. Financial wellness contributes to overall well-being, enabling individuals to achieve their goals, avoid debt, and build a secure financial future. To that end, Lake Catholic is pleased to partner with Cardinal Credit Union, whose CEO, Christine Blake, is a 1986 Lake Catholic graduate.

Cardinal Credit Union representatives join our Financial Literacy classes weekly throughout the semester to offer their Financial Wellness course - Real Accounts, Real Learning. This course aims to provide young learners with the tools they need to make informed financial decisions, preparing them for a successful future.
This course is structured to help students understand key financial concepts, such as budgeting, saving, investing, credit management, and responsible borrowing. By engaging in interactive lessons and practical exercises, students will gain the confidence to navigate the complexities of personal finance.
